I redesigned the Services & Industries page for Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney to address issues with the original layout, which displayed all services, industries, and their subcategories on one cumbersome page. The original design was difficult to navigate and offered little value to users.
My redesign introduced a streamlined category system that nested each subcategory within its parent category. Initially, only top-level categories are visible, with subcategories accessible via a clickable plus sign that toggles a jQuery dropdown. This functionality also ensures that when a new list is toggled open, any previously open lists are closed, maintaining a clean and readable layout.
This new design was a significant success for our internal teams, providing a simpler and more dynamic interface. On the back-end, administrators only need to indicate whether a parent item is a service or an industry. The system then automatically assembles the lists based on the nested structure. There is also an override function for items that may qualify as both but should not appear on the page. For instance, the COVID-19 information page, which was temporarily categorized under healthcare, was excluded from the subcategory list due to its temporary nature.
The new design not only improved user experience but also streamlined content management, making the Services & Industries page more intuitive and user-friendly.
